Folk Art Bird Tree SOLD

American hand carved Folk Art Bird Tree consisting of eight birds with glass eyes. Original polychrome decoration. Circa 1900.
Initialed: "JRH"
Among the Pennsylvania Germans, carvings such as bird trees were often presented as part of the ritual of courtship or tokens of affection or esteem. Also, the carvings were a symbol of rebirth, renewal or the arrival of Spring.

lower shelf. The shelves are metal with faux wood laminated decoration. Normal wear to the shelf surfaces with crazing. The shelves usually covered with a doily. Circa 1895

Footman / Trivet. Wonderful well executed brass pierced design supported by cabriole legs and shaped duck feet. Serpentine in form with a lower shelf in original iron work.
