About P. Gerard Mazzei Art & Antiques, Co.
Peter Mazzei’s first encounter with antiques started at an early age
of 13 in the Boston, Massachusetts area. He worked in the summers
and school vacations for an antique dealer as a day laborer, mowing
lawns, moving furniture, cleaning the showrooms, etc. He was
basically a gofer.
His first real interest in antiques was sparked when he was loading
a client’s car with an American Card Table. That client was Clement
Conger, Chairman of The United States Fine Arts Committee of the
Department of State. At that time Mr. Conger was purchasing items
for The White House and The Diplomatic Reception Rooms in
Washington, DC. Mr. Conger was kind enough to take the time to
explain to Peter aspects of the card table (which was made by famed
Boston cabinetmakers: John and Thomas Seymour). Those comments in
that brief meeting instilled in Peter the excitement for antiques.
Peter continued working summers for the antique dealer through College
at Boston University where he majored in journalism and public
relations. Each summer he met an assortment of people, collectors,
dealers, and experts in the field of antiques. These lovers of
antiques continued to educate and encourage him.
Soon after graduation from college, Peter entered the field of
antiques full time. He and his wife, Linda, assist clients from
their present location in Ascutney, Vermont.
The year 2007 marks his 42nd year.
